Pepto-Bismol chewable tablets and suspension both contain the active ingredient bismuth subsalicylate. It is used for relieving symptoms of an upset stomach, such as nausea, indigestion, heartburn and diarrhoea.
The active substance has several actions in the gut. It coats irritated tissues in the food pipe and stomach, helping to protect then from stomach acid. It may also kill certain bacteria.
For adults and children over 16 years of age:
Chew or dissolve two tablets (one dose) in your mouth. Repeat the dose every 30-60 minutes if needed. Do not take more than 16 tablets (8 doses) in 24 hours. Only use as directed. If used for longer than 2 days or at higher doses than recommended there is an increased possibility of side effects.
Liquid
Pepto-Bismol Suspension is a medicine that can be used to relieve symptoms of acid reflux, indigestion, diarrhoea and nausea. It is presented in an easy-to-administer liquid form and can be taken with or without food. It works to protect your stomach and the lower part of the food pipe from stomach acid and helps to ease discomfort caused by excess acid. Pepto-Bismol Suspension could be the product you need if you’re looking for an easy heartburn relief solution and prefer liquid medicine over taking tablets.
Shake the bottle well before use. Pour 30ml (one dose) into the provided cup and swallow. Repeat the dose 30-60 minutes if required. Do NOT take more than 8 doses in 24 hours or use after the expiry date. If symptoms do not improve after 2 days, seek medical advice from a doctor.
